My First Art


Title: My heart in pain

I am a 13-year old boy with autism. I can't talk but I love art. It's my first ever art lesson and I have been enjoying the process. I tried to express my complex and strong emotions. They're raw and sensitive, like my heart. 

I was in an art critique this afternoon. It was my first art class and first art piece reviewed by professional artists on zoom. My work was so well done that it got lots of compliments from the artists and other students. I was so so excited and happy and proud of myself. I am an artist and I finally found my way to express myself in a way that’s beautiful and powerful!

This is incredible Yi! One of my favorite artists named Jackson Pollock has this quote, "My art is direct. I usually paint on the floor. I enjoy working on a large canvas. I’m more at ease and uninhibited when working with an expansive surface. With the canvas on the floor, I feel closer to the painting, as though I were a part of it. I want to express my feelings, not illustrate them.” I really am glad to hear that it allows you to express more of you! Art is also very important to me :)

Today I went to see Lenae. I was very excited. I was nervous. I worried that she might be disappointed. I didn’t know if I had made enough progress. I was really worried that she could be disappointed about my progress. I was so relieved at the end that I was able to show her what I could do. I am so happy. I was able to spell on the iPad. I was able to type and speak. I was able to write and speak. I was able to hold the letterboard and spell. I am so proud of myself.  I love you mom. Van Gogh exhibition

I was very nervous today in the Van Gogh exhibition. It was very crowded. I don’t like it when there are too many people. It is too much for me to be there. I wish I could stay and enjoy the paintings. I wish I could control myself better. It is just too much. I am upset that I couldn’t myself to enjoy the art. I am sorry that you had to leave early. I know that you wanted to stay longer. I thank you for being patient with me. I love you.
